Ladies 4s vs Reading 7s – 1-1 Draw

Despite a lively warm-up (complete with music and good energy), Wallingford started a little sleepy, conceding an unfortunate early goal to Reading within the first few minutes. But from then on the game had plenty of action in both Ds and some nail-biting moments at either end.

The second half saw Wallingford settle into their rhythm. Short, sharp 1-2s between Annabel and Helen opened up space and kept the Reading defence on their toes. Jo made a brilliant return to hockey, showing confidence with some solid runs and strong hits down the wing, while Asuka was everywhere — sprinting back to defend and surging forward to help attack with lightning pace. Abi held her width beautifully, carrying the ball up the line and creating key attacking opportunities.

After relentless pressure, countless short corners, and several near-misses, Wallingford’s persistence finally paid off. In the dying minutes, Helen made a fantastic run, controlling the ball under pressure before firing home a reverse stick shot to level the score 1-1.

Player of the Match: Helen – for her tireless work, skillful play, and that brilliant equaliser!

Bobbi Broccoli Award: Emily – for forgetting her stick (and confusing it with a toddler’s one in the boot of the car).

Huge thanks to coaches Harry and Annabel for the halftime pep talk that reignited the team’s energy. A gritty, well-fought draw – and plenty to build on for next week! 💪🏑
