Mens 5s came up against top of the league Slough Despondents yesterday.
The first few minutes were scrappy with both teams struggling to get the ball out from their feet.
Slough had some talented players capable of flinging high arials up the pitch. They made their first attack into our half which ended with a clever flick into the goal. This followed by a second soon after. 0-2.
We started to make some good breaks up the left with Dom and Jun combining really well and Chris and Dave making good interpassing through midfield. We made some good crosses into the D but couldn't make a breakthrough.
Wally kept the pressure on and had the angry Slough team rattled with them getting yellow and green cards for arguing.
After Roger's injury before the start, Damian got a nasty gash on his hand bravely defending another Slough attack and ended the day in Abingdon getting 7 stitches. Dave also broke his hamstring before half time leaving everyone else to battle through the 2nd half.
The second half followed a similar pattern with 100% effort from the home team and our young players putting in some great performances. Jake, Jun and Dom combined well and Shepp caused some problems on the right.
Man of the match was Josh making his debut from the U14s. He really impressed getting stuck in with some strong tackles and passing and in the 2nd half made some penetrating attacks dribbling through the Slough defence.
Two impressive goals for Slough in the second half sealed the result but Wallingford finished with their heads held high. 0-4 final score
