The ladies 1s made the trek over to play South Berks, amazingly all complete with white socks.
After an initial kerfuffle over the colour of the match ball(!) we got under way. It soon became clear that South Berks were going to set a very high and aggressive press, putting our defence under massive pressure. Despite this we stayed calm and continued with our game plan of transferring round the back and breaking through their press with balls down the wings.
Unfortunately, when on the ball their passing and movement off the ball was very slick and they were able to score twice to make it 2-0 at half time.
The half time talk from Connor did its job and we were much more organised in the second half, allowing us to make more of our time in possession and create more chances. Sadly we couldn't quite find the final connections in the D but we were certainly much more competitive.
Part way through the second half they snuck another goal in but heads didn't go down and we continued playing our game and fighting for everything. We were rewarded for our efforts when Annabelle gambled and stepped in on the centre back on a 16, putting her under enough pressure to lose the ball. With the ball loose in a fairly empty D Phil's eyes lit up and she slapped it in to the far corner.
Tough game but there was some nice play and it was testament to the team's fitness that we were able to continue applying pressure to the end despite a number of injuries. The back 5 were fantastic throughout the game and didn't panic despite the intense pressure they were put under.
