Men 1st Team vs Newbury & Thatcham 1

The Mens 1s got back to winning ways at fortress Hithercroft this afternoon, putting Newbury to the sword after a tight first half. Both sides started brightly but it was Newbury who took the lead through a short corner. Wallingford responded well to the setback with Connor Blakey finishing neatly after good work from coach Rupert down the left hand baseline. This was quickly followed by an excellent solo goal from Cam Deans, weaving past three players in the D and finishing smartly. With just a goal in it at the break the game could have swung either way but Wallingford came out of the blocks the fastest, racing to a 5-1 lead through Jacob, Sheriff and Hugo to leave Newbury rattled. The Quarters seemed in total control until a 5 minute period let Newbury get 2 quick-fire goals and allowed them to get their tails up. A turnover high up the pitch by Cam led to a 2 on 1 which Jacob calmly converted for his 2nd. This took the pressure off and allowed defensive talisman and MoM Charlie Chamberlain to go waltzing up the pitch and almost score goal of the 21st century! 6-3 final score.
