Getting to know you: Nich Golding

THERE have been a number of role changes at Wallingford HC over the summer, none more so than at the top of our Ladies and Men’s sections where we have new club captains.

With the start of the 2018/19 campaign now upon us, we have already caught up with Josie Brettell, now it is time to meet Nich Golding. The midfielder, who captained our Men’s 2nd team to the MBBO Division 3 title last season, has been ever present at the club for more than 20 years. “I couldn’t bring myself to leave, even when I moved to London,” said Nich, who openly admitted to being known for a “cack handed pirouette and an overly keen analysis of stats”.

Captaincy is something he is used to, having also skippered our mixed team to the National Plate finals, but he is now trying his hand at the club role and he has a clear objective. Nich said: “I am aiming to widen the youth involvement and development plans, while maintaining the overall club aim of competitive and fun hockey.”

So let’s get behind our new club captains and wear those green and white quarters with pride!
