Fon Leigh double inspires 2s win

WALLINGFORD’S Ladies 2s were not put off by the rain as Fon Leigh’s double inspired a 4-1 win at home to Windsor.

It was a great performance from the team as they remain unbeaten in Trysports Three Counties League Division 1. Heather Merryweather and Emily Mayer were also on target. Our 1st team were narrowly beaten 1-0 at Slough 2nd in Premier 1. It was a tight game where whoever lost would feel hard done by. Slough had a goal disallowed in a hard-fought first half, before Wallingford responded well, only to be foiled by the home side’s goalkeeper on a number of occasions. The hosts then scored the decisive goal in a game which had draw written all over it.

Wallingford’s 3rd team recorded their first win in Division 2, when beating Oxford 5th 2-1 away from home. Despite dominating a soggy game, we disappointingly headed into the break 1-0 down. But a more focused team emerged for the second half and Ginny Light quickly levelled. There were excellent performances across the team and captain Jenny Capon dispatched a short corner to secure the victory.

Our Ladies 4s were edged 1-0 at home by Maidenhead  5th in Division 5. Despite the relentless rain, we played well and settled into the game after a nervous opening ten minutes. We won several short corners within a short space of time, but were unable to break the deadlock and Maidenhead caught us on the break to score the only goal of the game before half-time.
