CLUB captain Nich Golding scored twice to help Wallingford's Men's 2s make it back-to-back wins when beating Thame 4-0 at home.
We started the MBBO Division 2 match well and it did not take long for Golding to net the opener. The home side then doubled their advantage on the counter, Alex Mitchell and Jayden Zammler setting up team skipper Ben White to make it 2-0 at half time. Thame came out fighting after the break, but Wallingford finished the game strongly and Paul Flavell and Golding added to our tally.
The Men’s 1st team suffered their first defeat when going down 4-1 at early leaders Maidenhead. The home side were the better team throughout and Matty Leigh scored our consolation goal. This leaves us eighth in Regional Division 1 after three games.
In Division 5, our Men’s 3s produced a good performance, but were beaten 2-0 at Marlow 4th. It was an encouraging display and both goals were scored late on. The 4s secured their first win of the season in Division 8 West, beating Bicester 3rd 3-0 at home. It was a comfortable victory and we could have scored more. Dave Rollins broke the deadlock from a short corner and Richard Jackson scored this third of the season to make it 2-0. Roger Gill then netted to secure a convincing win. Wallingford’s 5th team produced another good performance, but were undone by two drag flicks in a 3-2 defeat at Bicester 4th. Colin Merryweather and Colin Allen scored our goals, while Timme Knaapen was faultless on his debut.
